Please do not coach form the sidelines you can volunteer for that. However, as we are a community program, the community needs to help encourage the kids. Please use these coaching points when cheering on your player and refrain from any other coaching. Kids can only focus on a few things at a time. Trust the process!
Week One: Confidence on the Ball
( Ball Control)
How do we keep the ball from being stolen?
- Small Touches (keep the ball close)
- Head up at all times (scan the field and don’t run into players)
- Change Speed and Direction
- Stay on your toes (faster reaction time)
- Use both feet
Week Two: Maintain Possession
(Passing)
How do we make accurate passes?
- Use the inside of your foot to pass
- Find feet (pass to a player on your team)
- Keep the ball on the ground
- Good Pass (when they do eventually pass)
Week Three: Receiving the Ball
(First Touch)
How do we recive the ball?
- Use the inside of the foot
- Hips open, use the outside leg, (Face the field, let the ball go across our body)
- Cushion the ball
- Trap the ball In the direction we want to move to next.
Week Four: Press Mechanics
(Stop the Attack)
How do we stop the attack?
- Press the ball: Closest person to the ball yells I got ball and sprints to the ball
- Get low in defensive stance: On toes in good balance
- Contain/Shadow : Don’t over commit
- Tackle: a loose ball
Week Five: Shielding
(Protect the Ball)
How do you protect the ball?
- Protect the ball with your body
- Get Low
- Put your shield up
- Win the ball
Week Six: Basic Shape
(Work as a Team)
How do we maintain possession?
- Get into the shape of a diamond
- On attack get as wide as you can
- On defense squeeze in (defend the center)
- Stay in position and be an option
Week Seven: Build Out of the Back
(Work the Ball Up)
How do we move the ball forward?
- Pass the ball to the outside
- Stay together
- Move the ball forward
Week Eight: Cross and Finish
(Work the to the Center and Shoot)
How do we finish?
- Cross the ball to the center
- Look for an opportunity
- Shoot or pass
